Evidence-based approach with research, testing, and data workshop

This 2-day workshop is designed to give you a replicable model for identifying what types of research, testing, insight, and data can help you solve content problems. Once you have learnt the framework, the workshop pivots to explaining how to run different types of research and testing to inform content decisions. You will work through content examples, assuming the roles of researcher, tester, and data analyst for different organisations to gain experience with a variety of methods.

Day 1: Learn the framework, learn to test with impact

You will:

  • learn a framework and process for identifying which methodology can help you solve content issues at different stages of the content lifecycle
  • understand the difference between qualitative and quantitative research and data, and when to use them
  • learn about Atomic Design principles and considerations required to build a usable research repository
  • gain experience prioritising user painpoints against business priorities and horizon scanning for research opportunities
  • structure different types of product usability testing scenarios to gain experience in how to solve complex issues and deliver meaningful insights
  • begin to tell stories with data to make your insights compelling and more impactful

Day 2: Learn the power of data, research, and insight

You will:

  • learn how to create user surveys that translate into actionable insight
  • Gain experience in planning and investigating field studies and diary studies
  • complete card sorting and tree testing sessions to inform content structures and menus
  • complete first click, 5-second, and preference testing (A/B testing) sessions to quantify the impact of a user’s first impression
  • conduct a desirability test to articulate how users feel about a product or process
  • plan, structure, deliver, and summarise a user interview that meets your budget
  • explore web analytics for key insights to inform future content design decisions
  • conduct and analyse a Pragmatic Usability Rating by Experts (PURE) evaluation to identify friction in a user journey
